Veni Vidi Vici - Part XIII (Monday, 23 December 2019)

One of the views of the walls surrounding the Vatican City and the palm trees we walked past daily

On Monday, 23 December 2019 we had a quiet day as we were feeling slightly fatigued. We planned to visit the church we walked past all the time on the way to or from the CIPRO metro (our local metro station) but there was a funeral taking place when we tried to visit it so instead we went to the Trionfale Mercato. A neighbourhood covered market with more than 200 stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meats, wine, fresh fish, meat, eggs, wool, breads, cakes, pastries, flowers, material, buttons, to name but a few of the items available! It's all undercover and each section is colour coded - red for the butchery section, blue for fish and so forth. So logical. There is even an Optometrist, hardware store and hairdresser. The fruit and vegetables on display are so beautiful, aubergines and peppers about 4 or 5 times bigger than in our stores.

On the outskirts of Vatican City, is the first Old Bridge Gelateria shop with the most amazing and delicious gelato – yes another incredible taste-sensation gelato shop! Old Bridge was on our list of one of the best places to go for gelato and so we could tick this off the list and it was a memorable mouth-watering experience!

In the latter part of Monday afternoon, we went to Aura shopping mall to buy some provisions from Pam Supermarket for our picnic lunches and enjoyed walking around the supermarket ooh-ing and aah-ing at everything on display and walked around the shopping mall just observing people and sights.

A restaurant called Old Wild West is uncannily similar and almost identical to the Spur Steakhouse restaurants in South Africa.
